ST LAWRENCE WETLANDS

The wetlands behind the St Lawrence Recreation Reserve were alive with birdlife. We spent a couple of hours, morning and afternoon in the birdhide and were rewarded with some very special sightings - Jabarus and Bustards in particular.

ST LAWRENCE

St Lawrence was a real surprise. The town buildings are very old and have had very little maintenance. We thought these were worthy of a photo.

We are in Cairns. Sam flew up at 3.00am Friday, we picked her up at the airport, then after a short sleep we took her out for a delicious breakfast.

Shower, open on one side to the rain forest. It was magic showering here after dark watching fire flies in the surrounding trees.

There is an elevated walkway between the upper rooms.

MISSION BEACH FILM FESTIVAL

Johnny Chop appears in the film and sat across the aisle from Faye just before the film began. He flew eight members of his family to Mission Beach to see the screening.

This part of the Agnes Water coastline is a privately owned eco-village where strict control of environmentally friendly building and living conditions are imposed on residents,  The pathway divides here, one path leading to the locked private entrance to the eco-village, the other being the access path from the car[ark to the beach for day trippers,  There are no signs to this particular carpark, We found out by asking at the information centre when we couldn't find access to Rocky Point which was listed on our map.  It appears to be deliberate to keep as many people away from the area as possible.

A large flock of approx 500 rainbow lorikeets flew over the 1770 beach at dusk and landed in a huge tree beside the foreshore picnic area
